Bent going straight for the record
JUST days after super sprinter Black Caviar busted the record for successive wins another long standing Australian record is under threat at Warrnambool on Wednesday, although in a completely different genre. In the Galleywood Hurdle, race six, champion jumper Black And Bent is shooting for his ninth successive win over the obstacles which would equal the record set nearly 40 years ago by Lots Of Time. Black And Bent’s winning run started when he scored by a half head over Grizz in the Fiscom Hurdle at Sandown Lakeside on April 21, 2010 with his latest success a five length win in a field of four at Sandown Hillside nearly two years later on April 12, this year. In comparison Lots Of Time put his record together in rapid succession from March to June before he finished second in the 1969 Grand National Hurdle behind Brother Bart. If stable form is any indication then Black And Bent should have no trouble equalling the record. Apart from the horse’s own great form, his trainer Robert Smerdon won the first two jumps races at the Warrnambool carnival on Tuesday with two impressive maiden hurdlers who both started odds-on. Making his hurdle debut Brungle Cry powered away to win the first race by three lengths and Kirribilli Gold, also making her jumps debut, led throughout to win the second by more than three times that margin. Both winners were piloted by top jumps jockey Steven Pateman who also takes the reins to steer Black And Bent in his challenge to equal the record. Pateman has partnered Black And Bent for his last six wins. It will be Smerdon’s second attempt to equal the record having fallen one short with Black And Bent's half-brother Some Are Bent who won eight straight before he ran third when a $1.65 favourite behind Spanish Symbol and Anyone We Know in the Hiskens Steeplechase at Moonee Valley in 2007.
Well in under the set-weight conditions for the Galleywood, Black And Bent .is a $1.35 fav. with Sportingbet to equal the record.

Hot Snitzel will be ridden cold
THE connections of smart 3YO Hot Snitzel have informed Stewards they will instruct jockey Hugh Bowman to ride the horse back in the field in Saturday’s Galaxy Stakes at Randwick.
It will be an about face in tactics for the early paced youngster who if not fighting for the lead is usually with the leading bunch of horses.
At his last start Hot Snitzel sat just of the pace and battled on gamely for a moderate fourth in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes but before that he had set the early pace when he came from a wide draw (11) to win the Group 2 Royal Sovereign Stakes.
Apart from the 2011 Golden Slipper Stakes where he was never better than midfield, Hot Snitzel has only once been ridden back in the field and that was at his second race start when he came from near last of 13 on the turn to finish a close fourth in the Inglis Nursery Stakes.
The Hobartville was Hot Snitzel’s only start on a heavy track which he is likely to encounter on Saturday but he has started twice for as many wins on slow surfaces.
He was a hot favourite when he won the Ken Russell Memorial on a slow track at the Gold Coast around this time last year and he was also favourite when he won the Listed Brian Crowley Stakes on slow going at Randwick last October.
Poorly drawn in barrier 15, Hot Snitzel remains at his opening quote of $12.00 to win the Galaxy with Sportingbet
The shortener in the betting has been the home track filly Elite Falls who has come in from $11.00 to $9.50.
Elite Falls won her only start on a slow track when she ran home strongly in a small field to take out the Reisling Stakes as a 2YO but in her only run on a heavy track she finished a moderate fifth of nine in when first as a 3YO in the Silver Shadow Stakes last August.
Early favourite Nobby Snip has eased slightly from $5.00 to $5.50 and now shares the top line with Bel Sprinter.
Gollan is singing in the rain
THE foul weather in Sydney may have caused today’s Warwick Farm meeting to be cancelled and must surely be playing havoc with the preparation of some horses but one person not complaining is Toowoomba trainer Tony Gollan. Gollan prepares smart galloper Temple Of Boom, a contender in next Saturday’s Galaxy Stakes at Randwick and as far as he is concerned it can keep on raining. Not only would a wet Randwick track suit Temple Of Boom, it would dampen the chances of some of his more fancied rivals that aren’t as happy in tough going. A winner at nine of his 28 race starts along with nine minor placings, Temple Of Boom can handle the dry surface but he is much more at home in the mud. On slow tracks he has three wins and three placings from seven starts and it is the wetter the better with two wins from as many outings on heavy going. He struck a heavy track for his debut at the Gold Coast and led throughout to win by nearly four lengths and he was also an easy winner on a bog track at Eagle Farm. His last three starts have been moderate but they have all been on tracks rated as good (3). Early in the eason he won a Group 3 and a Group 2 on dead tracks at Flemington. At this early stage the $350,000 Galaxy has a full list of 14 runners with two emergencies but if theweathe remains foul there is certain to be a number of scatchings. The $210,000 winner’s prize coupled with his current earnings of a handsome $880,245 would edge Temple Of Boom would past the $1,000,000 mark Sportingbet currently has Temple Of Boom a $12.00 chance for the Galaxy where the Gai Waterhouse trained Nobby Snip is a $5.00 favourite just ahead of Bel Sprinter at $5.50.
Black Caviar - WOOOOOOOSH
SUPER sprinter Black Caviar showed she was right on track to take her unbeaten record to 20 with an effortless win in a jump out over 800 metres at Caulfield today.
With race jockey Luke Nolen in the saddle the mare began on terms with her rivals before drawing away with each stride.
The further they went the further she drew clear and even though she was allowed to coast home at the end.
Track watchers had her clocking 45.99 sec. for the 800 metres where she came home in 12.5 sedc. For the last 100 metres which she was eased right down.
Trainer Peter Moody said: “She is still big in condition but you'd expect that. She's still three runs off her goal which is the Diamond Jubilee in mid-June.”
Some reports from today suggested that Moody will set Black Caviar for two Group 1 events in Adelaide, the Sportingbet Classic and the Goodwood Handicap before she sets off for her Royal Ascot campaign in England.
But be very careful before loading up with your hard earned to complete the South Australian double header.
The first leg, the Sportingbet Classic can be written down as a gimme.
It is a Weight-For-Age race and she will walk that in but the Goodwood is a completely different matter.
It is a handicap event and you can bet your life that she will be allotted the grandstand in weight with a couple of outhouses thrown in for good measure.
The super mare carried the decent impost of 58kg. to win the 2011 Newmarket Handicap and the reports were that she would have got as much as 60.5kg if she had contested this year’s feature sprint at Flemington.
It is only logical to imagine that she would be given even more in the inferior Goodwood which could be courting disaster.
Of course there is the old saying that “enough weight can stop a train” but on top of that is the concern that too much weight could lead to an injury.
The super mare is big, brilliant and good enough to lump such a huge burden but Moody has been particularly careful with his superstar and with the Goodwood on May 12, and English campaign coming up quickly after that it is hard to imagine him setting her such an onerous task.
WATCH BLACK CAVIAR TRIAL
Who needs Black Caviar
THANK goodness Black Caviar isn’t racing at Caulfield on Saturday.
If she was lining up for her 20th consecutive win it would have taken some of the gloss of a high quality Sportingbet Oakleigh Plate.
A full field of 18 have accepted for the 1100 metre dash and you can make a strong case for a lot of them.
Heading the weights and the markets is star three-year-old Sepoy ($2.70 fav.) who has lost only once in his twelve runs to date with five wins from as many starts at Caulfield, including three from three over the 1100 metres.
Of course the best of them was when he blew his rivals away in the 2011 Blue Diamond Stakes before going on to win the Golden Slipper.
Barrier 11 is the widest he has yet drawn in a race but that shouldn’t be too much of a concern as he has the early pace to snare a handy position.
What might test the resolve of Sepoy and punters is the hefty 58kg he has been lumbered with.
Three-year-olds have claimed three of the last six Oakleigh Plates but none of them carried close to the burden that Sepoy has been given, even allowing for the recent lift of minimum weights by 1kg.
When Starspangledbanner won in 2010 he carried only 52kg and it should also be noted that five of the 13 starters that year were three-year-olds with four of them missing a place.
Weekend Hussler carried 53kg. when he won in 2008 and we all know what a superstar he turned out to be while Snitzel won in 2006 with 51.5kg.
Allowing for the recent 1kg weight rise only two horses in the last 40 years have successfully carried the weight Sepoy will carry.
Undue won as a five-year-old with 57kg in 2007 and Fastnet Rock was a three-year-old when he carried that same weight in 2005.
Rated high among the chances is the lightly raced flying machine Bel Sprinter ($3.20), a winner at five of his only six starts including his only two at Caulfield.
He resumed from five months off with an extra-ordinary win at Caulfield on February 4, when he got a long way further back than usual and flashed home to win in great style against Listed company.
He has been kept fresh for this race where he gets 4kg off Sepoy in the weights and he has drawn nicely in barrier five.
Add to the mix Eagle Falls ($21.00), a last start Group 2 Rubiton Stakes winner over this course, along with West Australian star Grand Nirvana ($41.00) and a handful of other smart ones and the Oakleigh Plate looks certain to be a hotly contested event.
Race 6 Sportingbet Oakleigh Plate – 1100 metres 3.50pm.

Guide to Online Sportsbetting

When it comes to sports, nothing is better than your team winning. That is of course unless you had a bet on your team when they won! That of course is as good as it gets.
Wether you are looking to place a bet on your favourite team or you have a gut feeling on a particular event, the Miller's Guide to Online Sportsbetting is the best place to start your journey of creating an Online Sportsbetting account.
Over the past few years online gambling has experienced incredible growth. The main areas of growth have come from online casino's and online poker rooms, however online sportsbetting is one area that has also boomed due to the licensing and regulation of the industry in several jurisdictions.
If you are looking to become involved with online sportsbetting, it is wise to learn as much about the industry as possible before placing your first bet.
There are many terms used by online sports betting companies, and below is a simple Guide To Online Sportsbetting.
SIMPLE ONLINE SPORTSBETTING TERMINOLOGY
POINT SPREAD
With sports that feature high scores such as AFL or basketball, online sportsbetting companies will create what is known as a "point spread". The way the point spread works is that the sportsbetting company will allocate a point amount for each team, either positive for the underdog or negative for the favourite. For example, if the Collingwood Magpies are scheduled to play the Gold Coast Suns, the online bookmakers may set a points spread of 30 points in favour of Collingwood. This will mean that if you bet on Collingwood using the points spread, they would need to win by a margin of greater than 30 points in order for you to win that particular bet. If you bet on the Gold Coast Suns using the point spread, then they would not have to win the match, but rather not lose by more than 30 points in order for you to win that particular wager.
OVER/UNDER - TOTAL
The point spread is used by online sportsbetting companies to indicate the difference between each of the teams, but the 'Over/Under Total' is an indication of how many points total the teams will score. An example is that an online sportsbetting site may state that for a NRL game between the Roosters vs Dragons the total will be 30 points, this indicates that the total score between both teams will be set for 30. You may then bet either Over or Under if you think that the total will be either more than 30 or less than 30. Over/under Total bets are commonplace in all sports where there is prolific scoring such as the AFL and basketball, but they are also popular in other sports such as Soccer and Rugby.
TEASER
A Teaser bet is a bet where the points spread is reduced or increased along with the payout for the particular bet. This type of bet is not that popular as most punters prefer to take the simple Over/under bet or to bet on the points spread.
MONEY LINE
The 'Money Line' bet has become one of the most popular bets with online sportsbetting companies and is a popular bet for all types of sports, both individual and team sports. The 'Money Line' bet is a straight bet that does not involve the use of a a point spread or over/under total bets. With a Money Line bet, the closer each number is to the other will represent how close the online sportsbetting company believes the match up will be. One of the key reasons the money line has increased in popularity with both sportsbetting
companies as well as punters is that can be used for all types of sports. The Money line can be used for sports such as boxing, MMA, tennis, MotoGP, Soccer or Baseball. The reason it is popular in sports such as these is because it is generally very difficult to create a point spread for every game as, and with sports such as MotoGP or MMA a point spread is impossible as there is only winners and losers.
Generally speaking the money line for the favourite will be represented by a minus symbol, where on the flip side, the underdog will have a plus symbol before their number.
A sample money line would be represented as follows.
Collingwood -150
Gold Coast Suns +140
With this example, Collingwood is the favoured team which is signified by the - (minus) symbol in front of the 150. Meanwhile, the Gold Coast Suns would be the underdogs which is represented by the + (plus) sign in front of the 140.
In the above example, if you wish to bet on the favourite Collingwood, you would need to bet $150 to win $100. While if you wanted to bet on the underdog Gold Coast Suns then you would need to bet $100 to win 140.
A very important factor to remember is that while the money line is expressed in units of $100, you do not need to actually bet that much money. You can quite easily bet $10 or $50 on the money line as well, it is simply always expressed in this fashion.
FUTURES
Futures are bets that are made based on the future outcome of a whole season or championship league. Odds will represent each teams chance of winning their prospective league or season. For sports such as the AFL, teams are ranked according to their past and current form. For the 2011 AFL season, a team such as Collingwood (reigning premiers) will carry very short odds whereas a team such as the Gold Coast Suns will feature very strong odds as they are a new team with no record and the expectation for them to win the premiership is very low.
PARLAY
A Parlay is a method of betting a small amount for a chance at a big payoff. One way of thinking about a parlay bet is to think of it as an accumulating wager. A parlay is a bet on multiple outcomes and results. Basically if you make a Parlay wager and win, you will much more than if you bet each game or outcome individually. The rewards are very big for small outlays, however the house advantage on these types of bets is generally very high and can range from anywhere between 15 to 50 percent for five or six team parlays.
JUICE
Online sportsbetting companies are in the business for a reason, and that reason is the juice. While it is true that sometimes an online sportsbetting company will lose money due to the result of a sporting event, the majority of the time online sportsbetting companies will always make money due to the Juice. The juice is defined as a commission placed on each bet and it is normally around 10 percent of the amount of the bet. The juice is also known as the vigorish or vig, and this amount is used to help cover the online sportsbetting companies expenses as well as to offset and losses they may experience when a large winning bet is made on a large underdog.
SUMMARY
In summary, online sportsbetting is a great way to get involved with the sports that you love. Simple casino games such as blackjack or slots are boring in comparison especially given that an educated sportsbetter has a much greater chance of making money. Combine this with the fact that watching the game is always better when you have a bet on the outcome of the game.
