Australia Defeat Sri Lanka in WACA Thriller

Australia has defeated Sri Lanka by five runs in a thrilling match at the WACA last night in front of 13,085 fans. The Aussies survived a tail-end surge from the Sri Lankan lineup who fell short in the closest match of the Commonwealth Bank Series to date.

The Australian team were first to bat and posted 232 runs on the back of a great captains knock from Michael Clarke who managed to hit 57 off 88. At one stage, the Aussie's looked as though they would struggle to post a competitive score as the Sri Lankan bowlers had them at 8-192. Thankfully for the Aussie's however, McKay (25) and Starc (14) pulled together a tail end effort to give the Aussie's a score they could defend.

The Aussie's were in total control when they had the Sri Lankan team against the ropes at 6-143 when all-rounder Angelo Mathews fought back with a strong 64 off of 76. Thanks to the heroic performance of Mathews, the Sri Lankan team required 18 from the final over. Mathews managed to hit a 4 then a 6 leaving the visitors needing only six runs from the final two balls with one wicket in hand, however he was caught in the deep going for the game winning shot giving the victory to Australia improving their try-series stats to two from two.

Australian captain Michael Clarke tweeted following the victory, "Thanks for all your very nice messages. A few more grey hairs but another pretty good win. Bowlers were outstanding tonight."

Following the heartbreaking loss, the Sri Lankan team is now just two wins from the last 17 One Day Internationals at the WACA.

Also, if you are seeking to get a more exciting bet on the cricket, then we suggest you get in on the batting phenom David Warner. Currently Sportingbet are paying $5.50 for him to be the Aussie with the most runs in the ODI series. Although he is off to a slow start, anyone who knows David Warner will know that the man is capable of some incredible scores in this format and we are sure to see some action in the coming matches. Matthew Wade is the current favourite to score the most for the Aussies in the Series after his 67 runs in the opening match against India over the weekend. David Hussey could also be seen as great value after his impressive 61 runs off of 30 balls on Sunday, he is currently paying $6 for the title of the top runs scorer for the Aussies for the series.
